Plastic foreign bodies in chocolate gingerbread
Advent is coming and many people are picking gingerbread sweets. However, caution is required with the “EDEKA chocolate gingerbread, hearts, stars and dark pretzels”. The manufacturer and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety warn of plastic foreign bodies that may have entered the product.
For reasons of preventive consumer protection, EDEKA stores are recalling the article "EDEKA Chocolate Gingerbread, Hearts, Stars and Pretzels Dark Bitter" in a 500 gram pack made by Henry Lambertz GmbH & Co. KG. According to the manufacturer, it cannot be excluded that there are dark green plastic parts in the product. The recall affects all articles with a best before date of May 30, 2019, for which the number 748 is included in the batch number.
Distributed by Marktkauf and EDEKA
"The article was mainly offered by Marktkauf and EDEKA," wrote EDEKA Zentrale AG & Co. KG in a customer information on the company website. According to the company, the goods have already been removed from the sale. Anyone who has already bought the item in question can return it to an EDEKA or Marktkauf branch without presenting the sales receipt and the purchase price will be refunded.
Dangers from swallowed small parts
Depending on their nature, plastic parts in food can cause stab wounds and cuts in the mouth. If a foreign body is swallowed, depending on its shape and size, it can cause breathing difficulties or even shortness of breath. In the worst case, there is a risk of suffocation if small parts are swallowed. In addition, there is a risk that the plastic parts get stuck in the body and thus trigger inflammation. If the foreign body is sharp, sharp or angular, there is also a risk of stomach problems or internal injuries while the foreign body travels through the digestive tract. (vb)
