Allergens not labeled: Zott recalls cream yoghurts
The Zott dairy has started a recall for cream yoghurts. Allergens that were not listed on the cups may be present in the milk products sold at the Lidl and Netto discounters. Allergy sufferers should under no circumstances consume the affected goods.
Recall for different types of yogurts
The Zott dairy from Mertingen (Bavaria) is recalling different types of yogurt. "For the product concerned, there is a suspicion that unmarked entries of hazelnut, pistachio, almond, egg, wheat gluten have reached the cream yogurt as a result of the pre-production," the company wrote in a consumer information. This poses a potential health risk for consumers "who are allergic to the nuts, egg or wheat gluten mentioned or who suffer from an intolerance."
Sold by Lidl and Netto
A partial batch of the strawberry, peach passion fruit, amarena cherry and raspberry cream yoghurt in 150 g beakers is recalled.
The recall affects only the products with the letter codes that are sold through the retailers Lidl and Netto Marken-Discount:
KQJ, KQT, KRG, KRR, KSE, KQK, KQU, KRH, KRS, KSF, KQL, KQV, KRJ, KRT, KSG, KQM, KRA, KRK, KRU, KSH, KQN, KRB, KRL, KRV, KSJ, KQP, KRC, KRM, KSA, KSK, KQQ, KRD, KRN, KSB, KSL, KQR, KRE, KRP, KSC, KSM, KQS, KRF, KRQ, KSD, KSN,
in each case in connection with the preceding best before date 28.04.19. The batch identification is on the lid of the packaging.
Allergy sufferers should return affected products
"People who are not allergic to hazelnut, pistachio, almond, egg, wheat gluten or who do not suffer from an intolerance can safely consume the product," writes the dairy.
But allergy sufferers or people with an intolerance to the above-mentioned allergens should return the affected cream yogurt to the respective Lidl or Netto brand discount store.
There the purchase price will be refunded without presentation of a receipt.
Don't underestimate food allergies
Food allergies have been increasing for many years. According to estimates by the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB), around six million people are affected in this country.
Allergic reactions to food are generally not limited to certain organs. The most common symptoms are reactions on the skin and mucous membrane, in the ear, nose and throat area, on the bronchi and in the gastrointestinal area.
For those affected, the consumption of the respective allergens can lead to itchy rash, sneezing attacks, shortness of breath, flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, nausea and vomiting.
The most severe allergic reaction to food is anaphylactic shock, which manifests itself in the form of a life-threatening circulatory breakdown. (ad)
