A bloated stomach, the belt is stretched and discomfort spreads: feeling of fullness is extremely uncomfortable for those affected. Mostly this is due to too rich, fat-rich or too sweet dishes. In some cases, other triggers such as a food allergy or irritable bowel may be responsible for the symptoms.

Often home remedies can help relieve the uncomfortable pressure and tension in the stomach area. If the feeling of fullness occurs frequently and even after small portions of food, it should be clarified by a doctor. This is the only way to identify and treat a possible disease.

Indigestion

Bloating usually occurs in conjunction with other symptoms such as flatulence, stomach pressure, loss of appetite and heartburn. Many sufferers also suffer from incomplete bowel movements, abdominal pain as well as nausea and vomiting. In such cases, the generic term "indigestion" or dyspepsia is often used. If the symptoms are observed repeatedly, a doctor should be consulted promptly.

First aid for a feeling of fullness: ginger and galangal

Bloating is usually not a bad thing and can be treated well with home remedies. However, if it happens regularly or has already become chronic, going to the doctor is essential to find out the causes.

Ginger is the first of the series of recommended natural remedies. This has proven itself as a home remedy for colds and sore throats, but can also serve well for indigestion in connection with feeling of fullness and nausea.

Recipe for ginger tea:
  1. An approximately one and a half centimeter piece of ginger is peeled and cut into thin slices
  2. These are poured with 250 milliliters of boiling water
  3. The ginger is removed after five to ten minutes, but may also remain in the water
  4. The beneficial tea is drunk in sips after meals

Tip: Alternatively, chewing ginger is possible, especially for people who like the sharpness of the healthy root.

The galangal root is just as hot as the ginger and equally helpful. This is a well-known home remedy from Hildegard von Bingen's pharmacy. Galangal is also available in the form of chewable tablets, which are very practical especially on the go. After the meal, a tablet is chewed and well salinated.

Apple cider vinegar and honey

Apple cider vinegar provides relief for an oppressive and exciting feeling in the stomach. Mix two teaspoons of a naturally cloudy apple cider vinegar with one teaspoon of Manuka honey and stir the mixture into lukewarm water. Drunk about five minutes before eating, the mixed drink provides soothing relief.

Artichoke and curcuma increase bile juice production

Those who tend to feel full should enjoy fresh pineapple or papaya for dessert. Because the enzyme-rich fruits stimulate digestion. A shot glass full of artichoke juice, which is available in the health food store, is also helpful. The artichoke is a vegetable that has a positive effect on bile juice production and above all helps with fat digestion.

Curcuma (turmeric), the yellow spice that is often used in Spanish paella, also has a slightly increasing effect on bile juice production. If the food is enriched with it, a positive effect on the digestive performance can be achieved and the uncomfortable abdominal pressure can be counteracted.

Abdominal massages support digestion

If the food is like a stone in the stomach, baking soda helps. This neutralizes the excess stomach acid. Soda is a versatile tool that is also very inexpensive. A regular abdominal massage with essential caraway oil or orange oil, which should be carried out clockwise, supports digestion.

Alleviation of symptoms with aloe vera

Aloe vera can be very effective for a bloated stomach, heartburn and uncomfortable feeling of pressure in the stomach. The plant has proven itself for many years as an effective aid for various ailments and is used both internally and externally. A good, pure aloe vera gel that is suitable for internal use should be administered for at least two months. The minimum dose is started and the amount taken is slowly increased to the maximum dose. Aloe contains vitamins, amino acids, enzymes and digestive enzymes, so that a treatment can have a beneficial effect on the digestive organs.

Tea recipes for a feeling of fullness

Caraway, fennel, anise and coriander are good home remedies for flatulence and a feeling of fullness. If a tea is made from the medicinal plants and a cup is drunk after each meal, significant relief can quickly be achieved.

Tea blend for indigestion:
  1. Mix anise, fennel and caraway seeds in equal parts
  2. Pound the medicinal herbs lightly in a mortar so that the essential oils can escape and have a better effect
  3. Pour a quarter liter of boiling water over a heaping teaspoon of the mixture
  4. After about eight to ten minutes, the tea is strained and drunk hot

Tip: Alternatively, there is a tea mixture made from crushed caraway fruits, angelica root and a small amount of cinnamon bark. The preparation corresponds to the previously mentioned tea recipe.

If the feeling of fullness is mainly due to nerves, lemon balm and lavender can serve well. A tea is made with both ingredients, and the ratio of lemon balm to lavender should be sixty to forty. A teaspoon of the mixture comes to a quarter liter of boiling water. The brewing time should be approximately seven minutes. Both plants have a calming and relaxing effect on nerves.

An old home remedy for stomach pressure is peppermint tea. Freshly brewed and drunk after meals, it not only tastes delicious, but also relaxes the stomach. As an alternative to the artichoke juice already mentioned, artichoke leaves can be used for a beneficial tea.

A tea with chamomile and liquorice is helpful. The latter works against bloating and cramps due to the liquorice it contains, while chamomile also has a calming and anti-inflammatory effect on the mucous membranes.

Recipe for chamomile tea with liquorice:
  1. Put 2 teaspoons of chamomile flowers in a cup
  2. Scald them with 250 ml of boiling water
  3. After 10 minutes of brewing, the tea is strained
  4. Then dissolve 20 g of real licorice (from the pharmacy) in it
  5. Drink a cup of the hot beverage daily

Causes of feeling of fullness

A simple and easily understandable cause of a feeling of fullness is that the meals are too generous, especially if they are very fatty or sweetened. Then it is possible for the digestive organs to go on strike, which is manifested by an uncomfortable feeling of heaviness and stomach pressure, possibly in connection with further complaints. In this case, proven home remedies can provide relief naturally.

During pregnancy, especially in the last third, when the belly is already a little bigger and pushes upwards, feeling of fullness is quite normal. More frequent, smaller meals are definitely recommended here, so that the digestive organs do not have to do so much work at once.

Women often experience a feeling of fullness in connection with PMS (premenstrual syndrome), which is triggered by the hormonal fluctuations. Home remedies can often also help here.

If the feeling occurs after a small meal, disorders of the bile juice production, irritable stomach, irritable bowel, gastritis (gastritis), a stomach ulcer or a tumor are possible causes.

If the intestinal flora is disturbed, which often happens when taking antibiotics, the physiological and pathological intestinal bacteria are no longer in balance. Flatulence, malaise, diarrhea or constipation and a feeling of fullness are usually the result.

The hiatal hernia is also one of the possible causes of a feeling of fullness. This is a diaphragmatic rupture in which parts of the stomach push towards the chest through the opening of the diaphragm. See also: navel pain.

Psychological factors such as anxiety, stress or grief, but also the presence of depression can also lead to indigestion in connection with a feeling of fullness. Another trigger is the consumption of alcohol and nicotine.

Cause food intolerance

If the symptoms appear immediately after eating or drinking (e.g. cow's milk), a food allergy or food intolerance should be considered. Among other things, this includes lactose intolerance (lactose intolerance), in which the milk sugar can only be broken down insufficiently or not at all. This gets undigested in the colon, which can cause massive flatulence and a feeling of fullness.

Other more common food intolerances are fructose and histamine intolerance and gluten allergy (celiac disease)

Preventive measures

For indigestion in connection with feeling of fullness, the essential thing is slow, conscious eating and sufficient chewing. Every bite should be well ingested ("fletching") because there is already an enzyme in the saliva that initiates the first digestive process. If you chew too hastily and swallow too large amounts at once, the stomach has more to do, which in turn can cause complaints.

Those affected should watch themselves as closely as possible and avoid foods that are not tolerated. Instead of three large main meals, it is advisable to take six smaller portions throughout the day.

It is important that enough liquid is taken in throughout the day, preferably in the form of still water. Danger: The well-intentioned schnapps after eating, however, does not work. On the contrary, it can even slow down the digestive process. The more alcohol that is drunk with food, the worse it is for digestion.

Bitter herbs before eating, as an alcohol-free bitter elixir or bitter granulate, can have a positive effect on the digestive process and counteract a feeling of fullness. Both are available in the pharmacy. A starter with radicchio, chicory and / or dandelion has a similar effect. These bitter herbs contribute to well-being in the stomach. The prerequisite is, of course, that large, heavy and high-fat meals are not consumed afterwards.

Beware of raw food

Although raw food contains numerous vitamins, it is not so well tolerated by many people. Especially those who feel a full feeling in the stomach should refrain from doing so. Blanched or only slightly steamed vegetables are better. In the evening after 6 p.m. raw food is generally not recommended. The intestine can no longer process them and forms so-called fusel alcohols overnight, which ultimately damage the liver. Flatulence, dried fruit, freshly baked bread, sugar, sweeteners and chewing gum should also be avoided.

Exercise gets your digestion going

Even if your stomach is pinching and the sofa is waving, a walk with a feeling of fullness is the better choice, because the meal is digested faster. Loose clothing is advised so that the stomach is not constricted.

All in all, the right diet has a positive effect on the digestive system. A fat-free diet that contains lots of basic foods and is low in flatulent vegetables, little sweetness, sufficient fluids and walks after meals - all of these counteract the feeling of fullness.
