The best home remedies for boils

Effective home remedies for self-treatment of boils

In this article, you will learn which home remedies can help with a boil or abscess. A boil is an inflammation of the hair follicle and the associated tissue, which can develop on almost every hairy part of the body. However, predilection sites are the inside of the thigh, chest, neck, armpits and nose. Such inflammation usually occurs when the immune system is already somewhat weakened.

If the affected area is on the face and / or if there is severe pain, a doctor should be consulted promptly to prevent the infection from spreading. The same applies if the inflammation has existed for a long time and / or has increased over time.

Important measures in case of hair follicle inflammation

If the boil is not on the face, home remedies can serve well. However, if the inflammation has persisted for some time, has spread and / or is associated with massive pain, a visit to the doctor is inevitable.

In general, since the body has to do a lot of work with every inflammation, a healthy lifestyle is the be-all and end-all. Make sure you eat a healthy and wholesome diet with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and few animal products. "Fill up" as much fresh air as possible and exercise regularly. If the body's defenses are weakened primarily by mental stress, relaxation methods such as yoga or autogenic training help to reduce stress.

Hygiene is also of particular importance, so you should wash your hands after touching the boil. Avoid squeezing and squeezing at the affected area. Because especially when the boil is not yet "ripe", a dangerous infection can be triggered.

First aid for boils: curd wraps and white cabbage

Quark is a well-known home remedy for inflammation. A curd wrap can serve especially well if no pus has developed yet and redness and swelling are still in the foreground. For this, some quark is put in a thin cloth and placed on the affected area. If the curd has become warm, the envelope is renewed. The whole procedure should be repeated several times.

White cabbage can provide effective first aid for a boil. With a white cabbage leaf, the large rib is removed and the leaf is tumbled (kneaded and pressed) until juice escapes. Then it is warmed up slightly and placed on the boil. This process should be repeated several times.

A good remedy for inflammation of the hair follicle is propolis tincture. Two to three drops of it, applied several times a day, can help. The tincture is available in pharmacies, specialized online shops, and in some cases in herbal shops and drug stores.

Regularly drunk lapacho tea stimulates the immune system and thereby helps the immune system to fight the local spread of pathogens.

Compresses and envelopes against inflammation

Compresses are a great way to treat a boil. It is important to repeat the application several times a day.

Thyme has an antiseptic effect. Dripping two to three drops of high-quality essential thyme oil in a little warm boiled water and soaking a compress can speed up the healing process. Instead of thyme oil, tea tree oil, myrrh oil or rosemary oil can also be used as a good alternative.

Healing earth is able to bind poisons in the body and then transport them to the outside. The fine powder is mixed with a little boiled water to a pulp, packed in a small cloth and placed on the affected area. This compress can be repeated several times a day. To support the effect, one or two drops of tea tree oil can be added. Another option is to mix the soil with lapacho tea instead of water.

A porridge made from fenugreek seeds, made with a little boiled water, is a great way to get the pus to boil in a boil.

Another poultice consists of some apple cider vinegar mixed with oatmeal. This is applied in the same way as the healing earth compress described.

Chopped onions and garlic, wrapped in a clean cloth or sterile gauze compress and then applied to the boil, are a bit odorless but helpful.

Many patients know flaxseed as a proven home remedy for constipation. A porridge cooked from it, placed in a sack and placed warm on the affected area, can help to make the pus flow.

Medicinal plants and herbs with great effect

A well-known remedy for boils is the "jack of all trades" chamomile. The real chamomile has been known for its healing properties for thousands of years and has proven itself in a wide variety of areas.

Among other things, it can help with inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes or be used for colds and flu for inhalations. Inside she comes e.g. for abdominal pain, heartburn or as a home remedy for flatulence.

Chamomile tea for the treatment of boils:
  1. Pour 250 ml of boiling water over a tablespoon of dried chamomile flowers
  2. Leave for 5-10 minutes and then strain
  3. Soak a sterile compress with it and place it on the boil several times a day

Yarrow is a plant that has an astringent and anti-inflammatory effect and is therefore wonderfully suitable for the natural treatment of boils.

Instructions for a yarrow compress:
  1. Scald a tablespoon of yarrow with 250 ml of hot water
  2. Leave the tea covered for 10 minutes
  3. The herb is then sieved
  4. Soak a small cloth or compress with the tea and place it on the affected area

An ancient home remedy is the core soap bath. To do this, add some pure, unscented core soap to boiling water and stir until the soap has completely dissolved. The affected area is either bathed in it or used for compresses.
Danger: Soap is contraindicated for vacancies.

It is helpful to dab the boil with a little brine or put on a cloth soaked in it.

Cushions from nettle tea have a healing effect. For this purpose, a sterile compress or a clean cloth is dipped in warm nettle tea and then brought to the affected area.

Helpful applications from naturopathy

In naturopathy, patients are treated holistically, especially if they suffer from recurrent boils. The basis of the therapy is a detailed medical history to find out the causes of the inflammatory skin disease. For example, measures to strengthen the immune system are prescribed, autologous blood therapy and / or intestinal rehabilitation are carried out.

Since skin diseases are often associated with an unfavorable diet, those affected can detoxify their liver, for example, and receive instructions for changing their diet.

Schuessler salts for boils

The Schüssler salts No. 1 Calcium fluoratum in potency D12, as well as Silicea (No. 11) and Calcium sulfuricum (No. 12), each in potency D6, are known from naturopathy for the treatment of boils. No. 12 may only be used, however, if there is a drain at the boil. Ointments based on the Schüssler salts No. 1 and No. 11 can be used externally.

Natural treatment with homeopathy

Depending on the development phase of skin inflammation, various remedies come into question from the field of classic homeopathy. Myristica-sebifera is recommended to accelerate the maturation or emptying of the boil. Ointments and gels with arnica (available in drugstores and pharmacies) work well against swelling.

Hepar sulfuris can provide relief from stinging pain. Belladonna works against overheating the affected area. The proven home remedies for pimples Sulfur Pentarkan and Silicea help when the pus build-up persists and heals poorly.

St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) supports the healing process after the pus has opened or been opened by the doctor.

Symptoms: This is how you recognize a boil

A boil brings normal inflammation symptoms such as redness, swelling, and pain. Usually a plug of pus forms. A boil can go away on its own without treatment or empty spontaneously. The purulent inflammation can also cause massive pain and spread further. This is then called carbuncle.

If there is a boil on the face, caution is advised. Pathogens could reach the brain if the inflammation is not properly cared for. Under no circumstances should you lend a hand yourself. Treatment belongs in the hands of a doctor.

Causes of a boil

Poor hygiene, a weakened immune system and the existence of diabetes are among the causes of the development of a boil. Abrasive clothing that is too tight can also cause this. Furthermore, hormone disorders, such as occur during puberty, contribute to the spread of such an inflammation. The pathogens responsible for this are mostly staphylococci.

Warning: In these cases you need to see a doctor urgently

A boil should never be taken lightly. The inflammation can regress itself, but it is also possible for it to spread and the associated large-scale infection. To prevent this, it is important to see a doctor if the boils persist and / or enlarge for a long time or if you experience severe pain.

Especially when the affected area is on the face, an immediate visit to the doctor is essential. Avoid pressing or squeezing, as this can cause the pathogens to get into nearby veins and shift the inflammation towards the brain. In severe cases, this can lead to life-threatening complications such as cerebral vein thrombosis or meningitis.

In the doctor's office, depending on the extent, the boil is opened with a scalpel and given antibacterial treatment. Prescription of an antibiotic may also be necessary.
