Recall for natural food product: contamination with tropane alkaloids

Nordlicht Naturkost Handels GmbH from Kaltenkirchen (Schleswig-Holstein) has started a recall for Biogreno soy flakes. According to the company, the natural food product may be contaminated with tropane alkaloids. Among other things, these substances can lead to visual disturbances and fatigue.

Nordlicht Naturkost Handels GmbH from Kaltenkirchen in Schleswig-Holstein is recalling the "Biogreno Soy Flakes" product in a 500 gram pack. Reason for this measure: The soy flakes can be contaminated with tropane alkaloids.

Purchase price will be refunded
According to a customer notice published by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety on its portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de", the recalled packages with the lot number: 1903182 and the best before date: December 15th, 2020 are affected.

Customers who bought the goods in this batch and still have them at home can bring them back to the store and receive a refund of the purchase price.

Health impairments

“Tropan alkaloids are natural plant ingredients that occur in a variety of plants, especially in nightshade plants such as. B. henbane, thorn apple and belladonna ”, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Security (AGES) writes on its website.

During the harvest, contamination with these herbs can occur.

As Nordlicht Naturkost Handels GmbH explains, tropane alkaloids can lead to temporary health problems such as visual disturbances, dilated pupils, dry mouth or fatigue.

AGES also points out that these substances can cause drowsiness, palpitations, disorientation and hallucinations in higher quantities. These effects are reported to occur relatively quickly (5 to 30 minutes) after admission.
