Plastic particles found: Ökoland starts recalling cream spinach
Ökoland GmbH Nord from Wunstorf (Lower Saxony) has started a recall for cream spinach. According to the company, plastic particles were found in the frozen product. However, due to their small size, the foreign bodies are not classified as hazardous to health.
Ökoland GmbH Nord from Wunstorf, Lower Saxony, is calling back the product "Frozen Cream Spinach" in a 400 gram pack with a best before date (MHD): 07.2021 and batch number L0027F52 as well as MHD: 08.2021 and batch numbers L0044F52 and L0045F52.
Particles are clearly recognizable in color
As the company wrote in a customer information published by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) on its portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de", the above-mentioned product batches of Ökoland cream spinach were withdrawn from the market due to a foreign body finding.
“The found objects are presumably small white plastic particles. It cannot be excluded that these may be contained in other packs of the batches mentioned. The color of the white particles is clearly visible in the product, ”explains the company.
Purchased packs of the product batches mentioned can be returned to the store. Customers receive replacements.
Foreign bodies are classified as not hazardous to health
In food production, unfortunately, there are always contaminations or foreign bodies such as aluminum or plastic residues.
Foreign bodies in food can cause various injuries and symptoms when consumed.
Depending on the size, nature and material of the swallowed part, chewing can occur in the mouth and throat, among other things. In addition, depending on the size, swallowed parts can block the esophagus or digestive organs.
If smaller parts remain in the body, they can sometimes cause inflammation. Even internal injuries cannot be ruled out.
However, there is no danger from the possible foreign bodies in the frozen deep-fried spinach that is currently being recalled: "Due to the size of less than 5 mm and its shape," the plastic particles are "classified as not hazardous to health" according to Ökoland. (ad)
